![]() ![]() ![]() Jeannette documented her childhood upbringing in her book published in 2005. The Glass Castle Real Family lived a similar life as depicted in the 2017 film of the same name. Rex had a dream of building a Glass Castle for the family to reside in one day and always carried a blueprint of the castle with him where ever they moved but the closest they came to having a castle was owning a three-room home in Welch which had no indoor plumbing or heating. She and her family moved over 20 times in her first 10 years of life when the family came to a halt after moving back to Rex's hometown of Welch, they faced another tragedy as the Walls children were molested by their parental grandmother. They survived on the odd jobs Rex got here and there and resorted to dumpster diving when the paychecks were not sufficient. Jeannette experienced a nomadic childhood as her parents kept moving the family to avoid debt collectors and her alcohol-addict father was convinced the FBI was looking for them. The memoir itself is a sweet-worded description of the bitter childhood experience the author faced growing up with her borderline dysfunctional family. The 2017 film The Glass Castle is based on Jeannette's memoir of the same name. ![]() Jeannette has three siblings Brian, Lori and Maureen Walls.
